After LAUP
- Avoid strenuous activity for 7-10 days, as this may cause bleeding. Keep your head elevated with extra pillows for 3 days.
- Soft diet for 1-2 days following procedure, then advance diet as tolerated.
- Liquids are encouraged. Most patients tolerate lukewarm beverages best. Avoid citrus juices.
- A soft diet includes yogurt, custard pudding, Jell-O, applesauce, scrambled eggs and other foods of this type.
- Avoid spicy meals and foods that are too hot or too cold.
- Drink plenty of fluids: NO ALCOHOL. Avoid smoking.
- Gargle with diluted peroxide: 1 teaspoon per cup of water every 3-4 hours.
- You may brush your teeth and use a mouthwash that does not contain alcohol as necessary.
- You may experience a moderate to severe sore throat and earache for 7-10 days after each treatment.
- Take medication as prescribed. You may also use Chloraseptic or Cepacol throat lozenges every two hours as needed for discomfort.
- NO ASPIRIN, ADVIL, MOTRIN or medication containing Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs for 10 days after the procedure.
- Call the office if you are experiencing fever ( a temperature greater than 101.5) severe pain that does not respond to medication or severe bleeding.
